The current combined sales and use tax rate for the City of Colorado Springs is:

 

2.5% Colorado Springs 

2.9% State of Colorado  *

1.23% El Paso County (Effective 1/1 2013) *

1.0% Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority *

 

7.63% Combined Sales and Use Tax

 History of Sales Tax increases and reductions

On November 6, 2012, El Paso County voters approved a County sales and use tax rate increase of .23%.  The new rate of 1.23% is effective as of January 1, 2013. For more information on the sales and use tax increase please click here: El Paso County.

 On November 6, 2001, Colorado Springs voters approved a City sales and use tax rate increase of .4%. The new rate is effective as of January 1, 2002. For more information on the sales and use tax increase and how it affects taxable personal property leases, please click here: SCIP II Flyer

 House Bill 1259 lowers the state sales and use tax rate from 3% to 2.9% effective January 1, 2001. For more information regarding the sales tax rate change, see Tax Rate Changes (2000 - 2001) on the Colorado Department of Revenue web site.

 

On November 2, 2004, voters in EL Paso County, Colorado Springs, Manitou Springs, and Green Mountain Falls approved a new Pikes Peak Regional Transportation Authority 1% sales and use tax. The new tax is effective as of January 1, 2005. The Colorado Department of Revenue is responsible for administration of the PPRTA sales and use tax.  The Colorado Department of Revenue web site provides the Sales Tax Generator-- Online Tax Charts that can be used to determine the correct sales tax to charge or pay.  Also, the Department of Revenue publishes the DRP 1002: Colorado Sales/Use Tax Rates publication that gives the tax rates for all state-collected and home rule cities and counties. Both the Online Tax Charts and DRP 1002 publication can be downloaded free.
