Sand Creek Stabilization - Fountain Blvd. to Academy Blvd.
On February 27, 2008 the Stormwater Enterprise celebrated completion of its first capital improvement project - the $2.34 million Sand Creek Stabilization Project. Funding for the project came from a combination of sources and is a good example of how the Stormwater Enterprise coordinates with other agencies to design and construct projects that are of mutual benefit. Colorado Springs Utilities provided a significant amount of the funding for this project since the work protects two sanitary sewer crossings and wastewater pipes that run along the creek bank that were exposed due to erosion.. The project included design and construction of four grouted boulder drop structures to stabilize the channel bottom and protect the sanitary sewer crossings. It also included building two storm sewer outfall structures, repairing an existing drop structure, and providing bank protection along segments of the channel between Fountain and Academy Boulevards.
Stormwater Enterprise Funding: $0.19M
General Fund: $0.46M
(General Fund money was allocated to this project prior to the creation of the Stormwater Enterprise)
