Woodmen Road

The City of Colorado Springs and El Paso County worked together to develop a National Environmental Protection Act (NEPA) Environmental Assessment (EA) for the project which was, a necessary first step to make use of the federal funds available to both the City and County for Woodmen Road.
The City portion of the project is from I-25 to Powers Blvd., approximately five miles.
The City of Colorado Springs successfully pursued funding for Phase 1 of the project under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). $35 million from the Federal Governments "Stimulus Package" will help pay for Phase 1 of the Corridor. The project was selected in part because it is "shovel ready" for construction. This state of readiness was achieved after completion of the EA and a design process that included a comprehensive public involvement process with neighborhoods, businesses, and commuters.
Construction on the City's portion from I-25 to Stinson Rd. began in September 2009 and will be completed in September 2011. This phase includes the construction of the Woodmen-Academy Interchange.
