City of Colorado Springs / Environmental Sustainability / Green Building

Our Commitment to Sustainable Building

The City has been a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) since 2008. The third-party verification portion of the USGBC includes both building and professional Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) accreditation. The City has participated in the construction of two LEED certified building projects, has two more certification processes underway, and has designed an additional facility expected to reach LEED-Platinum certification once built.
In addition, the City has four LEED-AP and two LEED-GA certified employees. This means City employees are better able to meet the needs of "green" developers, are knowledgeable about green construction practices as they provide community residential housing assistance and are familiar with the efficient building practices that lead to lower costs at City facilities.
