Physical Resource Management (Apparatus and Facilities)
Mission Statement
To assure that Fire Department programs have appropriate and well-maintained equipment and the physical resources and facilities necessary to effectively deliver internal and external customer service.
Apparatus
This Section is responsible for writing specifications, procuring and maintaining all apparatus, light vehicles, tools, equipment, hose and SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus). Through the interaction with the Apparatus Committee, a replacement plan was implemented that resulted in the replacement of older apparatus, bringing the average age of "frontline" apparatus down to 5 years old.
Facilities and Capital Improvements
The Physical Resource Facilities Coordinator is responsible for budgeting, planning, and coordinating capital improvement and controlled maintenance projects. These projects include building new fire stations and maintaining the existing facilities. In addition, the Facilities Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that Colorado Springs Utilities Maintenance Staff complete and bill properly work orders completed at all CSFD facilities.
