Project's First Major Milestone Reach on Schedule

Milton E. Proby Parkway Scheduled to Re-open Between Hancock and S. Powers Boulevard

Weather permitting, a portion of the new Milton E. Proby Parkway will open tomorrow morning (Friday, October 29) sometime after 9 a.m., two days ahead of the contractor's (Ames Construction) deadline. This portion of Milton E. Proby has been closed since June 7, 2010. The new 2-lane road, located between Hancock Expressway and Powers Boulevard is the project's first major milestone. Motorists traveling to and from the Colorado Springs Airport and into the neighborhoods near Charro Drive will now have access to the new 2- lane highway in and out of the area. Approximately 5,200 feet of newly decorative sound walls have been installed along the roadway. Traffic will use a portion of the old roadway during this phase of the project.

Robin Kidder, with the City Engineering Office, will be available to the media at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. A media staging area will be set up on the westbound side of the new Proby Parkway just east of Hancock Expressway and the Drennan Road intersection. Vehicles should enter the tracking pad on the right hand side of the road heading eastbound.  Inquiries prior to the opening can be directed to Sheryl Machado with Ames Construction at 303-944-2008, or Mary Scott with the City of Colorado Springs at 719-385-5248.
