COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The City of Colorado Springs and the Fountain Creek Watershed Flood Control and Greenway District seek public input for Cheyenne Creek & Upper Fountain Creek Flood Restoration Planning.
Please join representatives from The Fountain Creek Watershed Flood Control and Greenway District for two Open Houses. The first open house will gather input for flood damage along Cheyenne Creek. The second open house will gather public input regarding damage to Upper Fountain Creek (downtown Colorado Springs to Woodland Park).
The Fountain Creek Watershed Flood Control and Greenway District received a $175,000 grant from the Colorado Water Conservation Board to assess flood impacts to both Cheyenne Creek and Upper Fountain Creek. Master plans will be prepared for both creek corridors which will develop actionable plans for mitigation of flooding and sedimentation, and restoration of the corridors. The City of Colorado Springs, Colorado Springs Utilities, El Paso County & the Fountain Creek Watershed, Flood Control and Greenway District contributed a combined $175,000 towards the grant match.
Both creeks suffered from extensive flooding during the summer and fall of 2013. The Fountain Creek Watershed Flood Control and Greenway District has scheduled two Open Houses to gather input with respect to each creek’s unique condition. Residents are encouraged to identify specific problem areas along both creeks to help develop the restoration plan for each watershed.
Open Houses are planned respective to each creek.
