Mayor Bach to present Spirit of the Springs Awards

Colorado Springs, CO- Mayor Steve Bach will present two Spirit of the Springs Awards on Monday, May 5, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. The award presentation will take place at the UCCS El Pomar Plaza, 1420 Austin Bluffs Parkway. A campus map is attached.

The first award will be presented to Dr. Janice Gould, 2014-2016 Pikes Peak Poet Laureate, and the second award will be presented to the UCCS Men’s Basketball Team.

Dr. Gould is an associate professor of Women’s and Ethnic Studies at UCCS, and is an ambassador for poetry to the community. The mission of the Pikes Peak Poet Laureate Project is to inspire and celebrate poets and poetry in the community. The project is a partnership of five organizations: Pikes Peak Library District, Colorado College, University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, COPPeR and the local nonprofit Poetry West.

The UCCS Mountain Lions men’s basketball team had the most successful season in school history. They made it to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time and had a ten-game winning streak during the regular season. They also broke season records in scoring and rebounding.
