Councilwoman Nominated for Athena Award

Jan Martin, councilwoman and founder of Martin Business Group which specializes in business training and information systems, has been nominated for the 2014 ATHENA Leadership Award®.

The award, inspired by the goddess of Greek mythology known for her strength, courage, wisdom and enlightenment, is presented to an individual for their professional excellence, community service and for actively assisting women in their attainment of professional excellence and leadership skills.

More than 6,500 exemplary leaders in over 500 communities— United States, Bermuda, Canada, China, Greece, India, Russia, Unite Arab Emirates and United Kingdom—have received the prestigious ATHENA Award since the program’s inception in 1982.

In addition to serving a second term on Colorado Springs City Council, Martin has mentored seven Rising Professionals since 2007, helping them understand their role in city government.

Martin is one of 24 outstanding women selected for this year’s award. The ATHENA Award recipient will be selected on Wednesday, April 23 at a luncheon held at the Broadmoor.
