Update - Second Structure Fire at 2314 E. Monument St.
Monday, March 03, 2014
Colorado Springs, CO – On February 27, 2014 at 12:17 a.m., Colorado Springs firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire at 2314 E. Monument Street. The first CSFD engine arrived within five minutes to find heavy fire coming from the roof of the single family home.
CSFD responded to this single alarm fire call with six apparatus including two fire engines, two fire trucks, and support personnel. Approximately 20 firefighters and support personnel were on scene.
On Tuesday, February 25, 2014 the CSFD was called to a structure fire of a shed located at the same address. The family was displaced as a result of Tuesday’s fire, therefore the home was unoccupied at the time of Thursday’s fire. There are no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians.
Because a bedroom and the attic of the home were damaged in Tuesday’s fire, CSFD crews conducted a thorough and careful overhaul of the home while protecting the property from further damage. In spite of CSFD crew’s work to completely extinguish and overhaul Tuesday’s fire, the second fire was likely caused by an ember that was deep-seeded in the attic insulation.
