Mayor Bach Honors Local High School Students

Colorado Springs, Colo - Mayor Steve Bach will present a Spirit of the Springs Award to the 25-student InvenTeam at Sand Creek High School in School District 49 on Thursday, January 9 at 10:15 a.m., at 7005 N. Carefree Cir, Colorado Springs, CO 80922. This is the first- ever team from Colorado to receive Lemelson - MIT InvenTeam award.

InvenTeams are groups of high school students, teachers and mentors who receive grants up to $10,000 to invent technological solutions to real-world problems. Sand Creek High School is one of 15 high schools selected this year from across the United States as an InvenTeam.    

The students will use the $9,900 award to create and develop their bio-sand mechanical water filtration system over the next eight months, and will showcase a prototype in June during EurekaFest at MIT in Cambridge, Mass.
