Grand Opening of Acacia Park Outdoor Skating Rink

Colorado Springs, CO – You’re invited to the Grand Opening of the Acacia Park Outdoor Skating Rink on Friday, November 22nd.  The celebration will begin at 4:00 p.m. with remarks from both City officials and representatives from the Downtown Partnership.  Along with the public’s first opportunity to skate on the brand-new ice for free, there will be exhibitions by members of USA Figure Skating and the Doherty High School hockey team. Colorado Avalanche Ice Girls will also be in attendance.  Regular skating sessions will commence at 6:00 p.m. that evening.

Special events will occur throughout the skating rink’s six-week run.  During the inaugural weekend, the following musical groups will be on site:

  • Saturday, Nov 23 - Moonhoney Gypsy Tango Cabaret, 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, Nov 24 - The Hereafter, 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, Nov 24 - Grass It Up, 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.

Additional events featuring live music, food vendors and Santa are scheduled throughout the skating season. Military Mondays, sponsored by Classic Homes, and College Tuesdays provide discounts on admission with a valid military or student ID. Other fun promotions including costume skate sessions and a date night are also scheduled. The rink is available for corporate skating events as well.


$5 per skater Monday–Thursday

$6 per skater Friday, Saturday, and Sunday

Skaters may bring their own skates, or rent skates for $3

Children 4 and under - FREE with paid admission.

The annual Holiday Tree Lighting is back on Saturday, November 30, coinciding with Small Business Saturday to encourage the support of our many small, locally-owned downtown businesses. The event will include:

  • 1:00 - 5:30 p.m. - Live music performances by Andy Clifton & Co., the Children's Chorale, and the Original Dickens Carolers
  • 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. - Pictures with Santa
  • 5:30 p.m. - Tree Lighting
  • Food trucks and beverage vendors
  • Specials at numerous downtown stores and restaurants
  • FREE meter parking all day
