Council Considers Outside Legal Counsel

Today at their Regular Meeting, City Council will vote on a resolution to employ outside legal counsel to assist the City Attorney with recommendations made by the Stormwater Task Force Governance Team.

If Council votes to pass the resolution, they will ask outside counsel to prepare legal opinions regarding the implementation of a regional control program for stormwater efforts, including issues related to governance and funding of such a program.

“Stormwater is one of the biggest challenges facing our community,” said City Council President Keith King. “We want to explore all options with the end result being the best solution for citizens.”

Per the City Charter, Council may, at any time, hire outside legal counsel to assist the City Attorney with or to take charge of litigation.

“Council is committed to providing transparent, responsible governance and we believe that hiring an outside attorney is one way we will meet that commitment,” said Councilmember Joel Miller.
