Structure Fire at 4170 Morning Sun Ave.

Colorado Springs, CO - On September 25, 2013 at 10:24 p.m., Colorado Springs firefighters were dispatched to a reported structure fire at the Residence at Austin Bluffs apartment complex located at 4170 Morning Sun Avenue. The first CSFD engine arrived within four minutes to see smoke coming from the three story apartment building. Firefighters evacuated the building, rescued a family from a 2nd story window and rescued two cats from other units. The main body of the fire was located in a bedroom of a unit on the 2nd floor and was quickly knocked down.  

CSFD responded to this call as a two-alarm response due to the size of the apartment complex and amount of people who would be impacted by the fire. The two-alarm response included five fire engines, four fire trucks, the hazmat unit, heavy rescue unit and five support apparatus. There were 52 firefighters on scene working to put out the fire and provide medical care to the residents. 


Five civilian and one firefighter that had minor injuries. All patients were treated and released on scene. Twenty-nine residents were displaced overnight due to the fire. All residents have been able to return to thier apartments with the exception of the residents of the the unit where the fire occurred. 


This fire is currently under investigation.
