 Original Police Blotter # 18317

On June 19, 2013, at 2:00 in the afternoon, officers responded to the Hillside Community Center located at 925 S. Institute Street in response to a report of a sexual assault that had just occurred.

While officers remained collecting evidence at the scene of the crime, our Adult Sexual Assault Investigators met with the victim at the hospital.  She was visibly traumatized and bleeding.  She stated that she was attacked and sexually assaulted by an unknown male in a nearby dry creek bed.

According to the victim, as she was walking near the community center, she was alerted by a man in an empty parking lot who asked her for a cigarette lighter.  She said shortly thereafter, she was grabbed from behind and dragged into a creek area where she was attacked and unable to free herself from the assault.

The victim provided investigators with a thorough description of the suspect and they immediately began to work this case.

They quickly identified a suspect who matched the description provided by the victim.  An arrest warrant was issued for Mark Terry Garcia {09/30/1966} requesting a higher bond due to the serious nature of this crime and the potential threat to the general public if he was released.

Mark Terry Garcia was arrested on June 21st and remains incarcerated.
