Press Release 1304-007

Friday, April 5, 2013, 1:00 PM [RELEASE AT WILL]

Last year, Apartment Managers in the Fountain and Chelton area approached the Colorado Springs Police Department to coordinate a meeting where ideas could be shared in the hopes of reducing crime in what has traditionally been a high call-for-service area for law enforcement.

Our officers were excited to join this venture and the impact to date has proven not only promising but successful.  We have a dedicated team of officers striving to reduce crime, monitor traffic issues and improve the overall safety and quality of life for residents.

We coordinated our efforts with Patrol Officers, Code Enforcement Officers, Crime Prevention Officers and Business Owners in order to facilitate open communication among one another.

CPTED {Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design} teams conducted security and lighting assessments in the area to help improve overall safety in the area.

Join us tomorrow between 8:00 am and 1:00 pm as residents bring bagged trash and large items to the south end of Mazatlan Circle where dumpsters will be provided free of charge.  Items that will not be accepted include: Refrigerators, tires, mattresses, vehicle parts, ammunition or batteries.

Sergeant Roger Vargason will be available for any media questions or interviews between 8:30 – 9:30 am.
