Home Invasion / Sexual Assault

Friday, February 8, 2013, 11:00 AM [RELEASE AT WILL]

Last night, at approximately 10:15,officers responded to a home on E. Boulder Street where a 71 year old female reported that her house was broken into and she was sexually assaulted.

The victim advised officers that she was watching TV at approximately 10:15pm, when she observed a person looking through her bedroom window. The victim, who lives alone, retrieved her handgun in order to protect herself.

As she exited her bedroom and was standing in the hall, the door burst open and the suspect rushed at her and attacked her before she could fire the weapon. The suspect knocked the gun out of her hand and threw her to the ground before sexually assaulting her.

Following the assault, he retrieved the gun from the floor and ordered her to give him her wallet. She surrendered her wallet and approximately $100.00 in cash. The suspect then took her wallet and her cash and fled the home.

The Adult Sex Assault Unit was notified and is assisting with the investigation. Detectives learned the suspect is a black male, approx. 6’ tall, medium build, approx. 25 years of age, with a short cropped hair cut, and no facial hair.

The suspect was wearing a one piece, tan in color “jumpsuit” style outfit that could possibly be a Carhartt style set of overalls.  He was also wearing tan work boots.

The suspect told the victim he was homeless and prior to leaving her home he stole a double sized comforter from her sofa. The comforter was blue in color, dark on one side and lighter on the other.
