8th Annual Bighorn Sheep Day

The 8th annual Bighorn Sheep Day is a fun, free and educational event celebrating Colorado’s state mammal. This year’s festival offers activities for all ages including viewing bighorns in their natural habitat, guided nature walks, scavenger hunt, crafts, snacks and a Cheyenne Mountain Zoo presentation with live animals.

Schedule of FREE Events

  • Nature Walks in the Park:  10 am, 11 am, 12 noon and 2 pm
  • We will have a viewing station set up on the deck and at Mesa Rd.,Shuttle Bus to and from overlook on Mesa Road (approx. every 30 minutes 10 am - 2:30 pm)
  • Youth Crafts by Bear Creek Nature Center, Red Rocks Room 10-am - 3 pm
  • Free Cookies and Cider

FREE Presentations in Theater

  • Children's Wildlife Game:  10:30 am - 11:30 am
  • Mary Taylor Gray presenting on Mammals - 11:30 – 12:30
  • Cheyenne Mountain Zoo Presentation with live animals:  1 pm - 2 pm
  • Bighorn Sheep Biology and the Impacts of Forest Fires, presented by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, 2:00 – 3:00 pm
