Suspect Sought in Bassett Drive Double Homicide

Monday, January 14th at 12:00 in the afternoon, 37 year old Fort Carson soldier, David Dunlap and his wife, 35 year old Whitney Butler were shot to death as they entered their home during a burglary in progress.


Officers immediately set up a perimeter and canvassed the neighborhood, interviewing multiple residents and witnesses in the area. 


Investigators interviewed a person of interest but concluded that he was not a suspect. 


As with every death investigation, detectives worked around the clock actively seeking critical information and pursuing every lead.


Their determination and hard work resulted in the identification of 17 year old suspect, Macyo Joelle January {05.05.1995}. 



A warrant for 1st Degree Murder has been issued for the arrest of Macyo Joelle January.   He is described as a black male, 5’5” with a thin build, black hair and a scar near his right eye. 


There is no known clothing description or vehicle associated with January.  He should be considered armed and dangerous.


This investigation remains on-going.  CSPD Violent Crimes is actively seeking any information as to the whereabouts of January whose picture is attached.
