Bassett Drive Update #2

UPDATE: The Coroner’s Office has completed the autopsies on our two victims from the home burglary. The manner of death has been ruled Homicide and the cause of death; gunshot wounds.
The victims were married and have been identified as: Whitney M. Butler {35} and David Dunlap {37}. David was a Fort Carson soldier.
The investigation is on-going.
Yesterday at 12:00 in the afternoon, Colorado Springs Police responded to a “Shots Fired” call at 222 Bassett Drive off S. Circle near Airport.
Officers immediately set up a perimeter and canvassed the neighborhood, interviewing multiple residents and witnesses in the area.
Following a preliminary investigation by our Violent Crimes Unit, detectives determined that a burglary was in progress at the home when the victims returned and encountered a suspect. The suspect shot and killed both victims before fleeing the scene. The names of the victims are not being released at this time.
Investigators have interviewed a person of interest but have not made an arrest. We are still actively seeking any information and pursuing every lead.
