Council to Hold Public Oil and Gas Work Session

City Council members will discuss proposed Ordinance 12-106 pertaining to oil and gas regulations with city and key regulatory agency staff during a Public Work Session to be held on Jan. 15 from 3-6 p.m. at City Hall, 107 N. Nevada, Council Chambers, third floor.

The purpose of the session is to address council’s key questions and to provide staff with direction regarding changes to the proposed ordinance.

Key staff attending the session include: Nancy Prince, local government liaison COGCC, Matt Lepore, director COGCC, Kent Kuster, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Water Quality Control Division, Chris Melcher and Marc Smith, city attorney’s office, Kyle Campbell, planning department, Brent Schubloom, Colorado Springs Utilities and Ed Gonzales, vice chair, planning commission.

The work session will not specifically address methods of extraction including hydraulic fracturing and no formal action will be taken.

Public welcome; public comment not permitted. Public comment will be permitted at a future public hearing during a regular council meeting.
