AMBER ALERT Canceled

Wednesday, December 19, 2012 4:00 PM [RELEASE AT WILL]

Colorado Springs Police are pleased to share the news that 2 year old Essence Lovato has been located and is safe and sound.

Essence was missing for almost 24 hours before police were notified of her absence late last night.

She was believed to be with Tonia Shetina, a 38 year old white female with blond hair who was said to be a person of interest in this investigation.

Ms. Shetina was last known to be driving a 2000 Green Honda Accord with Colorado Temporary Tag 592716K.

Just after 3:00 this afternoon, we received a tip based on the Amber Alert posted by the Colorado Springs Traffic Management Center on the variable message signs {VMS} that Tonia Shetina was at a particular home just south of Fountain.  At approximately 3:30pm., CSPD Violent Crimes Investigators and EPSO deputies responded to the home and safely recovered little Essence.

Essence has been reunited with her mom but CSPD contacted El Paso County Department of Human Services for their assistance as it relates to this case.

Investigators will work with the District Attorney’s Office to determine what charges are applicable against Tonia Shetina.

Potential charges for consideration include Kidnapping and Motor Vehicle Theft.
