Residents near Waldo Canyon Fire burn area advised of flooding potential
Thursday, July 05, 2012
Post-fire conditions in the burn area can present two foreseeable risks, debris flow and flooding. Hillsides once protected by vegetation, have been compromised and precipitation will have unknown effects on the landscape, probably for years to come. Therefore, it’s important for homeowners to protect their property themselves. Some steps that can be taken include:
- Seeking flood insurance through your insurance agent. Flooding is not covered by regular homeowner’s policies.
- Hire a specialist (often able to be recommended by your insurance agent) to evaluate your home’s risk.
- If you observe any clogged inlets or other public drainage infrastructure call so it can be cleared to safely pass flood flows.
