CSFD Firefighters get Trained on Animal Emergency Care

Colorado Springs, CO – The Colorado Springs Fire Department has been working with the Animal Emergency Medical Training Group to train CSFD firefighters as well as other area first responders on animal emergency care. The initial training will include small animal behavior, capture, restraint and transport; primary assessment, shock, field first aid, and oxygen administration; basic CPR, choking and near-drowning. This course is hands on, and firefighters will have the opportunity to practice the above skills on live dogs as well as canine CPR mannequins. More advanced training will be offered focusing on pre-hospital care for animals at a later date. The training will take place:
