City names Events Coordinator

The City of Colorado Springs announced the hiring of Brianna Goodwin as Events Coordinator in the Economic Vitality Division today. Goodwin comes to the position after having served as Fire and Life Safety Educator in the Colorado Springs Fire Department for the past six years. While at Fire, Goodwin created FireFactor, an innovative prevention curriculum for juvenile fire setting. The program received national recognition, including a feature in the New York Times and Goodwin has presented the program at seven national trainings and conferences. It was named “Program of the Year” by the Fire and Life Safety Educators of Colorado. Goodwin also worked on Fire Prevention Week open houses, each of which attracted 600+ participants, and Emergency Skills Camp events for teens and seniors.
“We had a great pool of candidates to choose from, but Brianna stood out among the eight finalists we interviewed,” said Donna Nelson, the City’s Economic Vitality Specialist who Goodwin will report to. “She accomplished great things at Fire and has the type of experience with events, including working with sponsors, community organizations, and volunteers, that makes her more than qualified for this position. We are really excited to have her take on this role.”
The position is part of Mayor Bach’s continuing alignment of existing staff resources to best meet his three main priorities of jobs, transforming City government and building community. While the position is new, the overall staff count of the City workforce is still well below budgeted amounts. The position is a lateral move for Goodwin and her annual salary will remain at $60,084.
“Funding this position addresses all three of our priorities,” said Mayor Bach. “The number of large scale special events our community is host to each year is growing and with that growth, we are creating the type of atmosphere attractive to young professionals along with the economic impact those events bring. By dedicating a position to be a liaison to those existing events as well as new ones that will be coming in, some as early as next year, we will insure that event organizers have all the City support they need for successful events. Finally, this position definitely meets our building community objective as we continue to look for ways to connect and celebrate all that is special about Colorado Springs.”
More about Brianna Goodwin
Prior to working for CSFD, Goodwin was the Community Relationship Manager for the American Cancer Society in Colorado Springs where she coordinated and trained volunteers for the Relay for Life event. Prior to that, she was an Event Coordinator for Invision Marketing in Fort Collins. She has a B.S. in Business Administration from Colorado State University.
