Fontanero Railroad Bridge Repairs
Monday, May 14, 2012

Construction of the repairs on the underside of the Fontanero Railroad Bridges will begin today. The work is expected to be completed by September 10th.

The project improvements will include construction of temporary shoring, which includes eight new columns and four pier caps to strengthen the mainline and siding bridges.

On Monday, May 14, beginning at 7:30 am, Fontanero Street east of I-25 will be reduced to a single lane in each direction for construction of the piers. Once the north piers have been completed, construction will shift to the south. Multiple times during certain phases of construction, Fontanero Street will be closed to all traffic for approximately one week at a time. Those closures will be announced ahead of time through media releases and VMS boards near the area.

The City is in the initial stages of a project to address existing structural conditions on the bridges. This effort will begin the repair process so that the functional life of the structures can be extended.

Drivers should expect some delays to complete this work and use alternate routes when possible.

For the safety and expediency of construction and the safety of the traveling public, the City of Colorado Springs ask motorists to pay close attention to posted speed limits and signs through the project area. All construction activities are weather and resource dependent.

The project is funded by the City Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority.
