City to receive award from Care and Share
Tuesday, December 06, 2011

The City of Colorado Springs was presented with a “Traveling Turkey” award from Care and Share and KLite 106.3 FM for continuing activities to collect turkeys and food in support of Care and Share’s effort to bridge the gap between hunger and abundance during the holidays.  Care and Share each year awards the Traveling Turkey to a company or organization which contributes significantly to the agency’s mission.

During the recent “Bring a Turkey to Work Day” promotion, City employees contributed 223 turkeys, 49 food bags and $1,700 in cash, which represents a more than 500 percent increase over the previous year’s cash contributions.  The City’s results represent a team effort, with Colorado Springs Utilities and U.S. Olympic Committee employees adding their support.

Care and Share presented the Traveling Turkey to Donna Nelson, the City’s Economic Vitality specialist live on KLite 106.3 FM at 8 a.m. today (Dec. 5, 2011).

Care and Share estimates it will distribute more than 18.5 million pounds of food throughout southern Colorado in 2011.
