Platte Ave. work ahead of schedule

City and contractor crews have finished the work that required the complete closure of a section of East Platte Avenue through central Colorado Springs for the past two weekends.  The work replaced storm drains that cross Platte Avenue, helping to flatten out the profile of the road and removing the ?humps? at cross streets.

"We appreciate the patience of nearby residents and motorists alike," said Colleen Dawson, project manager for the City.  "We understand what a disruption construction can be and we are pleased to complete this portion of the work so quickly."

Crews had done preparatory work during the week and had completed storm drain crossings during one day on weekends, when Platte Ave. was closed to traffic.

The entire project is scheduled to be completed by the end of November 2011.  All scheduling is weather dependant.  Motorists should pay attention to message boards in the area that will warn of traffic changes, and plan alternate routes accordingly.
