Platte Ave. Safety Improvements Require Temporary Lane and Street Closures

Construction of safety improvements along a section of Platte Ave. through central Colorado Springs is scheduled to begin Monday, August 29, 2011.  Work will close the outside lanes of Platte Ave. and adjacent portions of intersecting side streets (Meade, Farragut, Logan, Foote, and Sheridan).

Construction will start on the south side of Platte Ave.  The outside, eastbound lane and access to intersecting side streets will be closed for about five to six weeks.  Work will then move to the north side of Platte Ave. with the outside, westbound lane and access to intersecting side streets closed for an additional five to six weeks.  Sidewalks and pedestrian access will also be locally affected.

In addition, construction of storm drain improvements will require the complete closure of Platte Ave. to through traffic on three Saturdays (9/10, 9/17, 9/24).  The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of November 2011.  All scheduling is weather dependant.

Throughout the process, local access to intersecting side streets will be maintained from the end of the street away from the construction.  On-street parking may be impacted by staged construction equipment.

Motorists should pay attention to message boards in the area that will warn of traffic changes, and plan alternate routes accordingly.
