Metro Rides Bike to Work day City Council Cruiser
Colorado Springs will be putting its own spin on the national Bike to Work Day. On June 15 at 6 a.m., the 1st Annual Colorado Springs City Council Cruiser ride will begin at University Village Colorado. University Village is located on Nevada Avenue just north of Garden of the Gods Road. Led by Council President Scott Hente, the group will leave the north parking area at 6 a.m. and connect to the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail and ride south to America the Beautiful Park, where they will exit the trail and make their way to the Pioneers Museum arriving at approximately 6:45 a.m. At the Museum they will join Mayor Bach and more than 800 riders who will be arriving between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. to enjoy a delicious breakfast, entertainment, and drawings for prizes.
All City Councilmembers, who do not have schedule conflicts, will be on the ride. Additionally, Chief Myers (CSPD) and Chief Cox (CSFD), as well as Generals and senior staff members from many of the military installations in our community, will accompany the councilmembers on the ride to the Pioneers Museum. Mayor Steve Bach is scheduled to briefly address the crowd at Pioneers Museum. We are not aware of any other city in the country with this much participation from this many elected officials and community dignitaries.
It's not too late for citizens to sign up to ride and enjoy a community breakfast on Bike to Work Day. Visit www.springsbikemonth.com to sign up.
