Structure Fire at 1503 Cheyenne Blvd.

Colorado Springs, CO Colorado Springs Fire Department firefighters were dispatched to reports of smoke visible in the area of Cheyenne Blvd and Highland St. at 4:53am on February 6, 2013. When crews were in the area they located the smoke coming from a structure located at 1503 Cheyenne Blvd. The first CSFD engine arrived within four minutes to see smoke coming from the back of the home.

CSFD responded to this call with two fire engines, two fire trucks, the hazmat unit, heavy rescue unit and four support apparatus. There were 32 firefighters on scene working to put out the fire. No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. The home was found to be vacant and under construction. No one will be displaced due to the fire.

Fire investigators have determined this fire to be accidental, caused by the floor furnace that was in the home. The wood around the furnace was exposed to prolonged heat temperature igniting the fire. The property/content loss is estimated at $65,621 and the property/content saved is estimated at $132,289.

The CSFD wants to remind our community that you should have your furnace inspected annually and change your filters every month.
